Johnston County Native Releases Inspiring New Book Chronicling Faith, Loss, And Hope

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Johnston County native and author Luke Johnson is releasing his deeply personal and faith-filled book, From Heartbreak to Hope: Landen’s Story, a true account of love, loss, perseverance, and God’s sustaining grace through one family’s most difficult journey.

Landen

Raised in Smithfield, North Carolina, Johnson’s roots run deep throughout Johnston County. Childhood memories of Little League Baseball at Civitan Park, visits to Millie’s Hot Dogs, and annual trips to the Ham & Yam Festival remain a cherished part of his connection to the community. Smithfield helped shape the values and relationships that continue to influence his life today.

“Some of my fondest memories were made in Johnston County,” Johnson said. “The friendships, the community, and the people who invested in my life have remained a lasting source of encouragement through every season.”

Johnson is also the son of Terry Johnson, who faithfully served as pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Selma for more than twelve years. During those years, the Johnson family became deeply connected to the communities of Selma, Smithfield, and the surrounding areas.

From Heartbreak to Hope: Landen’s Story tells the remarkable true story of Johnson’s son, Landen, who battled a rare genetic condition with extraordinary courage and unwavering faith before passing away at the age of nine. Through hospital stays, treatments, setbacks, victories, and heartbreaking loss, the book offers readers an honest look at grief while pointing them toward the hope found in Jesus Christ.

More than a story about suffering, the book is a testimony to God’s faithfulness in the midst of life’s deepest trials. Readers will encounter moments of joy, laughter, heartbreak, and inspiration as they follow Landen’s journey and discover how God can bring hope even through unimaginable pain.

Johnson hopes the book will encourage families facing difficult circumstances, strengthen believers walking through seasons of grief, and remind readers that God’s purposes remain steadfast even when life takes unexpected turns.

“Johnston County has always been home to me in many ways,” Johnson said. “It seemed fitting that as this story is shared with the world, I would acknowledge the community that helped shape my life and faith.”

In keeping with the mission that grew out of Landen’s life and legacy, all profits from the sale of From Heartbreak to Hope: Landen’s Story will benefit the Landen’s Story Foundation, helping the organization continue its work of encouraging families with children facing a rare diagnosis, families whose child tragically passes away, and pointing to hope only found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
