Johnston County Student Wins Amazon Scholarship

A Johnston County student is the recipient of The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, one of 400 in the nation.

Michael “Coleman” Allen is a graduating homeschooler and Eagle Scout.

Coleman will receive up to $40,000 in paid tuition to attend college and a paid internship offer at Amazon after their freshman year of college to gain hands-on, practical work experience with mentorship from Amazon leaders.

Scholars will also engage in networking opportunities with their peers and Amazon employees, receive skills development and mental health resources, and have access to an emergency grant fund for unexpected financial obligations that might prevent them from attending school.

Coleman played several years as a baseball catcher within the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association (GCAA).

Coleman will be pursuing an engineering degree with a computer science intent this fall at NC State University.

Coleman is the son of Michael and Karen Allen.
