Johnston County Troopers Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Wreck

MICRO — A 67-year-old motorcyclist was killed Monday evening in a collision near Micro, according to the State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 5:12 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Bizzell Grove Church Road and involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck.

Troopers said Billy Joe Wise was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on U.S. 301 when a 2019 Ford Ranger, driven by Anthony Lee Myers, 40, entered the intersection from a stop sign on Bizzell Grove Church Road.

The motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the truck, ejecting Wise from the motorcycle.

Wise was transported to WakeMed Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Myers was not injured.

The State Highway Patrol is consulting with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office. Charges are pending.

    • Yeah it is. BJ was a good friend to my husband Mike Mills. His heart is hurting and his mind is going through old memories. I pray for him. I also pray God will comfort his family in their grief. It’s tough as nails to lose someone so suddenly.

    • BJ was my brother on the motorcycle, he was a good honest man and always tried to help others, hewas loved by so many .Life will no longer be the same without his stories, smiles and laughter. The man who killed him is a murderer. Plain and simple

    • I know that’s true. We have a busy road up where I live. It has a lot of businesses with signs along the edge of the road. One day, I looked twice, and started pulling out to make a right turn. All of a sudden a motorcycle appeared from my left side out of nowhere. I slammed on my brakes and uttered apologies he could not hear. I figured out what happened though. Those signs at the edge of the road hid that motorcycle from my view. I couldn’t see him coming. Those signs are dangerous to cyclists because even when we do look twice, we can’t always see you. If there’s a passing lane (a little further away from the curbside), it might be safer to travel in that lane. We don’t want to hurt anyone. We just need to know you’re there.

  1. I feel like my heart is shattered 💔 in a million pieces. Much love to his sister’s and other family members

  2. I hate this intersection, especially now with that car dealership. With already limited visibility, that dealer parks trailers to unload vehicles and prevents passage. I’ve complained numerous times. There should be a light there considering the amount of traffic (students and buses) who travel through. I’ll be writing to DOT/County and town (whoever handles street lights) and anyone willing to listen. This is so tragic, I believe Mr. Wise was a dear neighbor of ours, my condolences go out to the family.

  3. I was going south on 301 tonight and a black car pulled out from the same stop sign as soon as I got to the intersection. I had to lock my brakes up to prevent hitting them.
