Johnston County Truck Driver Wins $138,239 Jackpot Haul

CLAYTON, N.C. – Bruce Morgan of Clayton had a feeling he would win big playing the lottery and on May 18 it happened when he won a $138,239 Cash 5 jackpot.

Morgan, a truck driver, bought his lucky $1 ticket using Online Play. The odds of matching all five balls playing Cash 5 are 1 in 962,598.

“I was making a delivery and I pulled over to check my numbers and I was like, ‘Wait a minute, what am I seeing,’” Morgan recalled.

Morgan said he is still processing his big win.

“I still don’t think it has registered,” he said.

Morgan claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $99,546.

He plans to use his winnings to pay bills and save.

Education programs in Johnston County received $14.6 million in support from lottery funds last year.
