Johnston County Under Winter Weather Advisory

JOHNSTON COUNTY – The National Weather Service has placed Johnston County under a Winter Weather Advisory from 7 a.m. Monday through noon Tuesday, noting that light snow could still produce hazardous travel conditions throughout the area.
The National Weather Service predicts up to half an inch of snow locally, with higher amounts—up to 2 inches—possible closer to the North Carolina–Virginia line. Rain is expected to develop Monday morning before transitioning to a rain-snow mix around midday.

Although snow accumulation in Johnston County will be minor and mainly limited to grassy areas and elevated surfaces, the larger concern arrives Monday night. Temperatures are forecast to plunge into the upper teens to low 20s by early Tuesday, allowing any leftover moisture on roads, bridges, and overpasses to freeze into black ice ahead of the morning commute.
Drivers should be prepared for slick conditions Monday evening and again on Tuesday morning. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, and use caution on the roads.
Pedestrians should also watch for icy spots on steps, sidewalks, and driveways early Tuesday, as these surfaces may become slippery.
