Johnston County Woman Accused Of Filing False Insurance Claims

CLAYTON – North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced the arrest of Charnay Hayden Padilla, 26, of Averasboro Drive, Clayton. Padilla was charged with four counts of insurance fraud, three counts of obtaining property by false pretense and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

Special agents accuse Padilla of obtaining $2,876.29 in event cancellation insurance claims by falsely telling Jefferson Insurance that she was unable attend Flo, Sesame Street Live and Chris Brown events because she was required to work. She is also accused of attempting to obtain an additional $1,065.31 in event cancelation claims by falsely telling the insurance company she was required to work during another Chris Brown concert.

The offenses occurred between Dec. 14, 2024, and July 1, 2025.

Padilla was arrested on Nov. 9 and given a $40,000 secured bond.

Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious fraud.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”

    • I totally agree! Ticketmaster allows you to pay for insurance when you purchase your tickets. She purchased and submitted a claim. Meanwhile o was hit head on by a drunk driver life turned upside down and the insurance company doesn’t want to pay. My health insurance refused to cover my care because someone hit me and was advised to get payment from them. Sad world we live in.

  2. Why aren’t all the people who fraudulently receive thousands of dollars in worker’s compensation arrested?

  3. She wasn’t right in doing this but trying to get me to feel sorry for the insurance company is like trying to get you to feel sorry when a bully gets hitting their victim. Insurance companies should all be nonprofit because how terrible and scum they are to make their insane profits. You could have paid in to a insurance company house insurance for 20 years for $200 a month and paid in over $40,000 and if you need to file a $2,000 claim they will raise your rates despite having made so much money. Then if you have two more claims in the next few months, let’s say two more $2,000 claims they will probably cancel your insurance even though they have made over $30,000 on you because you are costing them too much right now. How many insurances try to get out of paying legit claims or low ball you to try and save money? Again, two wrongs don’t make a right but if there is one company I don’t have any love lost for it’s insurance companies because they try to legally steal from you.
