CLAYTON – A 20 year-old Johnston County man was the victim of a sextortion scam. The victim told Clayton Police he met an individual on Snapchat and exchanged explicit photographs.
After receiving the photographs, the unknown person told the victim he needed to send $500 or the explicit photos would be posted on social media. The victim sent $500 through Venmo and the transaction was unable to be cancelled, according to Clayton Police Chief Greg Tart.
According to the FBI, sextortion frequently involves young victims. The criminal will use threats of harm or exposure of the images. After the criminal has one or more videos or photos they use the threat of sharing or publishing to get the victim to send money or in some cases send more images.
Got what he deserved !
Here’s a good rule for everyone… if you wouldn’t send it to your mom don’t send it to anyone else!
