The Junior Women’s League of Smithfield (JWL) is grateful to have received $2,041 in donations from the grassroots group Flock-a-Senior JoCo, which is specifically earmarked to help keep JWL’s eight Blessing Boxes in Johnston County filled with non-perishable food and hygiene items for those in need.
Flock-a-Senior JoCo was started by a group of people who wanted to recognize the accomplishments of Johnson County’s high school graduates in a fun way due to their 
senior year being cut short as a result of COVID-19. The organization wanted proceeds from the event to go to individuals affected by the pandemic. They designated a portion of the proceeds for JWL’s Blessing Boxes. JWL members, along with others in the community, volunteered to “flock” Johnston County high school seniors’ yards with flamingos and graduation decorations.
“The partnership between JWL and Flock-A-Senior is a great example of our community coming together to support one another in a time of need,” stated Erin Smith, VP of Community Outreach and Engagement. “The Blessing Boxes are being utilized more than ever due to the financial strain placed on families during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are honored to receive the proceeds from this event and our members are working diligently to stock the Blessing Boxes throughout Johnston County.”
