KENLY – Kenly Town Manager Michael Douglas has been released on an unsecured bond after his arrest. Douglas was charged with sexual battery for an incident that allegedly occurred on August 15, 2019.
Douglas was indicted on June 1st by a Johnston County Grand Jury on the misdemeanor offense. According to the indictment the defendant “…did unlawfully and willfully did for the purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification and sexual abuse engage in sexual contact with another person by force and against the will of the other person….”
The investigation into the incident was conducted by an investigator with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office.
Douglas, 48, of Raleigh has been the Kenly Town Manager for two years.
Kenly Town Attorney Chip Hewett said officials do not have any comment on the arrest at the time.
Douglas was accompanied by a private attorney when he turned himself in Friday afternoon at the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office in Smithfield to be served with the warrant. He was released by a magistrate on an unsecured bond.
