Kenly Traffic Stop Leads To Recovery Of Stolen Firearm

KENLY, N.C. – A Selma woman was arrested after police said a stolen firearm was discovered during a traffic stop in Kenly.

According to Kenly Police Chief James Ayers, Detective K. Taylor stopped a vehicle on Bagley Road on June 5 for alleged vehicle registration and child restraint violations.

During the investigation, Detective Taylor developed probable cause to search the vehicle, authorities said.

Police reported finding a Glock handgun during the search. Further investigation revealed the firearm had been reported stolen by the Fuquay-Varina Police Department.

As a result, 25-year-old Destinee Aponte of Selma was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Aponte was transported to the Johnston County Magistrate’s Office, where she was given a $7,500 secured bond.
