SMITHFIELD – Johnston County Commissioner Butch Lawter of Clayton was reappointed Board Chairman for another year.

“Thank you. Thank you for the faith that you put in me for another year as chairman,” Lawter told his fellow commissioners after the Dec. 5 reappointment. Lawter was nominated by Commissioner Tony Braswell.

Commissioner Patrick Harris of Smithfield was reappointed Vice Chairman for another year. Harris was nominated by Commissioner Ted Godwin.

“Thank you sir. We won’t have to reprint any name plates,” Harris said jokingly after the reappointment process. Commissioner Tony Braswell jovially replied, “That was a determining factor.”

  1. I would like to suggest that we are past due on large school construction projects, and local infrastructure projects. In looking at the housing requests and approvals, you won’t be able to build the schools fast enough. I urge you to prove me wrong.

    • I completely agree with you Jayson, how can the United States absorb 1/3 of Central and South America population and not increase services? More than 5,000,000 border crossings a year and the unemployment rate has no chance of dropping? Question for the citizens of the United States who are supporting these border crossings so they don’t have to work?
