Local Sorority Organizing 5K To Support Youth Mental Health

CLAYTON, N.C. – A community-wide effort to raise awareness about youth mental health is coming to Clayton.

The Johnston County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host its Walk-Run-Rise 5K on May 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at Clayton Municipal Park.

The event is being held in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, a nationwide initiative focused on education, advocacy, and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.

Organizers say the 5K is open to participants of all ages and fitness levels, with options to walk, jog, or run. The goal is to bring the community together while supporting youth mental health programs and resources across Johnston County.

Proceeds from the event will benefit House of Hope, which serves vulnerable girls between the ages of 12 and 17.

Event organizers say the fundraiser is not only about raising money, but also about encouraging conversations around mental wellness and strengthening community support systems.

Early registration is available for $30, and vendor spaces are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis for $60.
