Logs Scatter Across U.S. 70 After Truck-Car Crash

PRINCETON — A collision between a tractor-trailer hauling logs and a passenger car shut down eastbound lanes of U.S. 70 near Princeton for several hours Friday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 12:45 p.m. on U.S. 70 eastbound. According to emergency responders, a tractor-trailer collided with a passenger car, knocking the engine out of the car upon impact. The truck then overturned, spilling logs across the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Several of the logs entered the cab of the tractor-trailer, but despite the severity of the crash, drivers of both vehicles suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Both drivers were transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Eastbound lanes of U.S. 70 were closed while crews worked to clear the roadway. The North Carolina Department of Transportation responded to the scene and began stacking the logs along the side of the road. The trucking company is expected to retrieve the logs on Saturday.
The roadway was expected to reopen around 6 p.m. Friday.

Princeton Fire Department, Johnston County EMS, and the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

It’s the stupid u-turn only option that the NCDOT has left the residents of Princeton with. Fix the lunacy. It
Pretty sure not making a u-turn in front of a log truck would have prevented it.
i agree. Some folks just have to scratch that dumb itch. “oh its my time to shine, that big a** truck will stop for me” 🤯🤯 maybe one day people will figure out how to slow down and pay attention.
I was the car directly behind them, and I was the one who pulled her out of her car. She was coming home from dialysis and im sure she was worn out. It was a very bad accident and they are both alive, so maybe save the sarcasm for another day.
Did she pull out of the U-turn lane or the stop sign?
Well said. Praying for their quick and complete recovery.
Based on your description, it sounds like she shouldn’t have been driving.
There’s not a single stop light on hwy 70 in the east-bound direction before Princeton, which means there are no natural breaks in traffic, leading to unsafe u-turn opportunities during heavy traffic times.
It may be “stupid” to you but it’s been 100% safer, those changes were prompted but accidents with three fatalities at two adjacent crossovers in less than a year. I’ve lived on Old Rock Quarry Road since the highway became 4-lane, and the most “lunacy” I have witnessed has been the drivers that do not understand how to yield the right-of-way when making a left turn from the old style median crossovers; are you one of those drivers?
^ This. I just can’t understand how anyone wouldn’t see a huge truck coming, or wait for traffic to clear, but it happens all the time.
Agreed, it’s insane.
Yeah 70 has like 6 uturn only intersections in princeton now
Glad everyone is okay.
But a lawyer will find a way to sue the log truck and driver, cause according to them and the news it’s always the trucks fault….
