BENSON – A major accident has closed a busy Johnston County roadway. The collision was reported just after 10:00am today (Wednesday) on NC Highway 50 at Surles Road, about two miles south of Benson.
The accident involved two tractor trailers and a white passenger car.
A semi hauling sweet potatoes overturned on its side. The second semi and passenger car ended up in a ditch just yard apart.
Three injuries were reported. None of the injuries were considered to be serious.
Benson Fire contained diesel fuel leaks from both tractor trailers.
Johnston County Emergency Management has responded to assist with the incident.
Highway 50 is closed in both directions due to the crash. The roadway is expected to be closed for several hours today.
The State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the three-vehicle accident.
