Man Arrested At Local Hotel On Drug Trafficking Charges

SMITHFIELD – A 48 year-old man was arrested at a Smithfield-area hotel on serious felony drug trafficking charges.

Harvey Lee Neal Jr., of S. Church Street, Kenly was arrested May 25 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Information about the incident was only recently released.

Neal, a convicted felon, is accused of having firearms and 19 grams of suspected methamphetamine in his possession.

He was charged with four counts of meth trafficking, two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, and single counts of maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, and possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver a controlled substance.

Neal was given a $100,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Jail. The name of the Smithfield-area hotel where the drug bust took place was not disclosed.

  1. Reminiscent of the old Trot Motel, I know many people were glad when that place closed down. Didn’t think Smithfield had many hotels left that dealers would be able to do business out of.
