Man Arrested For Stealing Chainsaw

BENSON – A man was arrested July 10 for allegedly stealing a chainsaw then selling it minutes later to an unsuspecting buyer.

Joseph George Hood, age 43, of Warsaw, NC is charged with felony obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor larceny.

Hood reportedly stole the chainsaw out of the back of a pickup truck while the owner, a 62 year-old Benson man, was inside a business on NC Highway 210 near I-40.

A nearby security camera captured the 9:20 a.m. theft and a description of the vehicle the suspect was driving.

Later that day, a deputy spotted the vehicle on Veterans Parkway near I-40 and conducted a traffic stop.

Authorities learned Hood had just sold the stolen chainsaw to an individual for $200.

The stolen saw was recovered and returned to the victim.

Hood was held under a $20,000 secured bond.

    • To educate several this morning, what is the purpose of a bond? To ensure the accused is present at the designated court date.
