Man Assaulted, Robbed While Checking Mailbox
CLAYTON – A man said he was assaulted and robbed while checking his mailbox last week in what appears to be a random attack.
The victim told the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office he had returned home around 7 p.m. last Monday, Nov. 24 and stopped his vehicle in his driveway on Pony Farm Road to check his mail. Three men in their 20s, wearing hoodies and bandanas, jumped out of a black Chevy, possibly an Impala, and attacked him, pushing him to the ground and leaving him with cuts and bruises.
The suspects stole a silver chain and the man’s wallet, containing a small amount of cash, before fleeing the scene. Deputies said the victim did not know the attackers.
The incident was not reported until the following day.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
