Man Charged After Allegedly Selling Stolen Tool Back To Owner

JOHNSTON COUNTY – A Garner man is facing criminal charges after allegedly selling a stolen power tool back to its rightful owner through Facebook Marketplace.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began October 1 when a 22-year-old man reported his Sawzall power tool had been stolen while he was at a business on East Malibu Drive, just off Veterans Parkway.

The victim later spotted what appeared to be his stolen tool advertised for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

Rather than letting it go, the victim arranged to meet the seller and paid $160 to get his own tool back.

Deputies subsequently identified the seller as Jerry Anderson Moore III, 42, of Birdie Drive in Garner.

Moore was arrested October 28 and charged with obtaining property by false pretenses and possession of stolen goods.
