Matthews Takes Oath As Interim Harnett County Schools Superintendent

W. Brooks Matthews was officially sworn in as the Interim Superintendent of Harnett County Schools during a ceremony held Thursday.

With a longstanding career dedicated to education, Mr. Matthews brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role. Harnett County Commissioner William “Bill” Morris delivered the oath of office, while Mr. Matthews’ wife, Rosa Maria, held the Bible.

During the ceremony, Mr. Matthews expressed his commitment to ensuring the continued success of Harnett County Schools and extended a heartfelt thanks to those in attendance.

Former superintendent Dr. Aaron Fleming announced his resignation in July 2024 to accept the superintendent position at the Alamance-Burlington School System. His last day on the job in Harnett County was September 17.

Members of the Harnett County Board of Education previously voted to appoint Deputy Superintendent Matthews to fill the role as interim superintendent until a permanent replacement for Dr. Fleming can he hired.
