The death of a Robeson County man who died on the campus of Johnston Community College in Smithfield has been ruled due to natural causes.
Vernon Anthony Scott, 48, of Maxton, NC was near the pond on the JCC campus on College Road around 9:50 PM Wednesday when he collapsed and died. Police Chief Michael Scott told WTSB News on Thursday the death did not appear to be suspicious.
On Friday, a medical examiner ruled Scott’s death was due to sudden cardiac arrest. The medical examiner ruled the death due to a natural cause.
A second person was with Scott when he collapsed. They alerted paramedics who responded to the scene.
