Meet Smithfield’s Newest Police K-9 — Now Name Him

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield’s newest police officer has four legs — and needs a name.

The Smithfield Police Department is asking the community to help name its new K-9, recently paired with Officer I. Landon.

Before hitting the streets, the dog will complete a 12-week training program to become a narcotics detection K-9. But first, officers want the public to weigh in.

Seventeen names are up for consideration, and voting is open now through 5 p.m. Friday, May 8.

Police say the effort is a way to introduce the department’s newest crime-fighter — and give the community a chance to be part of it.

Residents can cast their vote through the department’s online survey.

    • My sons name is Gentry so I’m for that. I was surprised to see the names you could pick from but I voted for “smoke” because I’m sure I don’t want none of his smoke 🤣

  1. My vote goes for the name Blue. As a German Malinois owner (she really owns me) I love to see the finish trained product. Good luck SPD!

  2. Rambo: means : aggressive strong man (or dog)

    Zeus: meaning:

Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology, symbolizes authority, justice, and the sky, embodying themes of power, moral order, and the complexities of human nature.

  3. Letting the public (the same people who elect and re-elect the clowns in office) choose the dog’s name. What could go wrong?

    I nominate: Doggy McDogFace
