Meth Trafficker Receives 70-93 Month Prison Sentence

SELMA, N.C. – A Selma man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to trafficking methamphetamine in a case investigated by the Selma Police Department.

On July 20, 2026, Ernest Leoniza Watson pleaded guilty in Johnston County Superior Court in Smithfield to trafficking methamphetamine. He was sentenced to 70 to 93 months in prison.

The conviction stems from Watson’s arrest in September 2025 at the La Quinta Inn & Suite on 1695 Outlet Center Drive.

According to Police Chief Justin Vause, officers seized more than 60 grams of methamphetamine from Watson, along with drug paraphernalia indicative of illegal drug distribution.

“This sentence sends a clear message that drug trafficking will not be tolerated in our community,” Chief Vause said. “I am proud of the officers whose work helped bring this case to a successful conclusion, and I appreciate the efforts of the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office in holding this offender accountable.”

Chief Vause said the department remains committed to proactive enforcement efforts aimed at reducing illegal narcotics activity and improving public safety.
