Funeral arrangements have been announced for Mitchell Carter Rabil, 62, of Smithfield who died Sunday at his home.
Services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday in the Temple Baptist Church with Rev. William Holliday officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Smithfield.
Carter was the son of the late Mitchell George and Gertrude Carter “Trudy” Rabil and was preceded in death by a brother Robert Rabil. He received his BA degree from Appalachian State University, where he played Rugby and has since followed the team.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, the Smithfield Appearance Committee and was very active with the Johnston County Heritage Center. He was also a former member of the Smithfield Rescue Squad. For the last several years, Carter has been a photojournalist for several local news organizations. He was also known for his vast knowledge of Johnston County history and trivia.
Surviving are his daughters, Meredith Rabil and Morgan Rabil both of Smithfield; brother, Stephen Rabil and wife Sheila of Smithfield and sister, Mary Esther Belknap of Clearwater, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Johnston County Animal Shelter, P. O. Box 1809, Smithfield, NC 27577 or the Johnston County Heritage Center, 241 East Market Street, Smithfield, NC 27577.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Parrish Funeral Home and at other times at his daughters home, 1107 S. Walnut Drive, Smithfield, NC 27577.
