A moonshine still was found Monday in rural Sampson County. It marks the second time a still has been found on the same property.
Acting on a tip, Sampson County deputies with the help of NC Alcohol Law Enforcement agents discovered the still on Mt. Elam Church Road near Roseboro. Travis Wayne Perry of Cumberland County was arrested on several charges including possessing non-tax paid alcohol, use of property to manufacture non-tax paid alcohol, possess for sale non-tax paid alcohol, manufacture non-tax paid alcohol, and possessing equipment for the manufacture of non-tax paid alcohol.
This is the second time a still has been found at the site. Agents dismantled an illegal still in June 2012. The property owner, Samuel Scott Byrd, was charged with manufacturing non tax paid alcohol for the 2012 operation.
