Four Oaks Police have released the identity of a moped driver who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a collision involving a log truck.
The accident happened at 4:17pm on US 701 just south of Interstate 95.
Police Chief Stephen Anderson said Allen Banks Jr., 46, of Raleigh was operating a moped on Devil’s Racetrack Road and had made a left turn onto US 701 South. Banks was in the median turn lane and attempted to merge right into the southbound travel lane but failed to yield to a log truck in the southbound lane being operated by Robert Drish, 67, of Connecticut. Banks moped struck the side of the log truck. Banks died from injuries sustained during the collision.
Chief Anderson announced today (Thursday) that no charges would be filed.
