Nine more felony charges have been filed against a 32 year-old woman who reportedly used her three school age children to conduct a fake fundraiser.
Melonie Julia Hayes, 32, of Wilson was arrested last week by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office after she allegedly went door-to-door in several neighborhoods between October and December soliciting money for a school the children did not even attend.
After news outlets, including WTSB, published the story last week, 9 additional victims have come forward saying they gave Hayes money for the fake school fundraiser. Hayes is facing 9 additional felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.
