Johnston County authorities are investigating the tragic deaths of a young mother and a newborn child.
It happened Saturday night in a parking lot in the Flowers Plantation area on Highway 42 about four miles east of Clayton. Around 8:35pm, first responders were dispatched to the scene.
Authorities said it appears a 28 year-old woman gave birth to a child inside a vehicle. The mother and baby were found unresponsive. Efforts by EMS crews to save their lives were not successful.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Johnston County Medical Examiner are jointly investigating. Officials tell JoCoReport no foul play is suspected and the deaths, although very tragic, are not suspicious.
The woman worked at a nearby business.
