SAMPSON COUNTY – An Erwin man was killed Monday when the Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was riding was struck by a semitractor-trailer in Sampson County.
Twenty-eight-year-old Tyler Austin Gilbert, of Raiford Road, was riding his motorcycle east on Harnett-Dunn Highway (N.C. Highway 55) when troopers say a semi-trailer struck him at the Green Path Road intersection around 11:50 a.m. Gilbert was ejected from his bike, which ended up under the front bumper of the truck.
Troopers say Richard Lee James, of Darlington, South Carolina, failed to yield to Gilbert when his truck crashed into him.
James was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol Sgt. D.K. Pearson reported Trooper L.M. High investigated the fatal crash.
Prayers for the family of Tyler Austin Gilbert.
