Man Caught Vandalizing Church Cemetery, JCSO Says

SMITHFIELD – A Johnston County man is accused of vandalizing a church cemetery. Sunday afternoon, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious person call at Sanders Grove Baptist Church, at 6989 NC Highway 210.

Deputies said they encountered Hunter Dustin Messer, age 36, of Brown’s Pond Road, Selma in the cemetery reportedly removing flowers from graves and pulling up parking signs. Messer allegedly claimed he was living in the cemetery, authorities said.

When officers attempted to approach, he began to walk away. After being ordered to stop, he allegedly yelled “F**k you” and ran. While being subdued, Messer allegedly bit a deputy on the arm.

Messer, who was reportedly under the influence of an impairing substance, was charged with injury to property, misdemeanor larceny, resisting a public officer, and assault on a government official. He was given a $3,500 secured bond.

  1. Hunter Dustin Messer, you will rot in Hell for doing what you did. How would you like it if someone did that to your loved ones grave. As for the Judge that let him out on that low bail, I think you are an animal. He bit a Police Officer along with what he did at the Church. I don’t think much of you either. You need to be removed from office. We need to protect our LEO’s and not encourage attacks on them! As a judge you just sent out a bad signal!

    • Steve before you say something like that how about taking account that his mom just died last year instead of sitting there, saying that he needs to rot in hell you don’t know who Hunter Messer is he is my brother he is going through a lot do I say he was in the right no but if you have nothing nice to say don’t say nothing at all. He was homeless he was not doing anything wrong he was picking up the flowers and putting them back but because of how he looks they say the worse so find out the truth the law lies all the time.

    • Sam, you are probably right but he needs to go. The bail amount is disgusting and a disgrace to all the men and women of Law Enforcement who most of them do the job to protect us. I would love to know who the magistrate was to. I would do everything I can to have him fired!

  2. Steve if ur man enough to get a magistrate fired based on ur opinion then to be sure u can find out who they were
