The Highway Patrol has released the name of a man who died in a motorcycle accident Sunday morning in Johnston County.
Troopers, firefighters and medical personnel responded to the 1:36am crash on Old Fairground Road off Highway 210.
Authorities said Drew Veeneman, 37, was traveling southbound on Old Fairground Road on a BMW motorcycle when he ran off the road to the right in a curve, struck a fire hydrant then a tree. Veeneman died at the scene.
First Sgt. D.L. Mobley said speed was a contributing factor. Authorities withheld releasing his name until Monday until his next of kin were notified in Michigan. Photos by John Payne
