Motorist Says Driver Brandished Gun During I-95 Road Rage Encounter
SELMA, N.C. — The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported road rage incident on Interstate 95 after a motorist told deputies another driver displayed a handgun during an early morning encounter near Selma.
The incident was reported around 5:23 a.m. on July 15 as the victim was traveling northbound on Interstate 95 near Exit 97.
According to the sheriff’s office, the 25-year-old North Carolina driver told investigators he was traveling in the left lane when a silver Honda Civic approached rapidly from behind and began flashing its headlights.
Before the driver could move into the right lane, the Honda reportedly passed on the right. As it did, the driver allegedly displayed a handgun, according to the report.
The victim also told deputies the Honda was equipped with a flashing strobe light. The vehicle continued northbound on Interstate 95.
After the encounter, the motorist pulled over and contacted the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies searched for the vehicle but were unable to locate it.
