KENLY, N.C. — Multiple firearms were reportedly seized after a driver led Johnston County deputies on a pursuit before escaping on foot Saturday afternoon near Kenly.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy sheriff was traveling on Beulahtown Road near NC 222 West around 12:27 p.m. on May 23 when he spotted a 2011 Mini Cooper that had previously been driven by a suspect wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle in order to identify the driver, but authorities said the suspect refused to pull over.
The chase continued onto NC 222, with speeds reaching approximately 85 miles per hour, before turning onto Bay Valley Road where the driver stopped the vehicle and ran from the scene.

As the suspect fled, the deputy recognized him as the individual wanted on the outstanding warrant, according to authorities.
A sheriff’s K-9 unit responded to assist in the search, but the suspect was not located.
During a search of the Mini Cooper, deputies discovered multiple firearms inside the vehicle.

Authorities said additional warrants were obtained following the incident. The suspect’s name was not released, but officials stated he is a previously convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms.
No injuries were reported during the pursuit or search.
