A section of NC Highway 222 near the Johnston-Wayne County line will close Wednesday morning, May 5th, weather permitting, to replace a crossline pipe that is failing underneath the roadway.
The closure will occur near Atlantic Road, just east of the Johnston-Wayne County line. Maintenance employees for the N.C. Department of Transportation will dig up the pavement, remove the 42-inch pipe and install a 60-inch one that will better handle stormwater.
The signed detour will vary depending on which direction drivers are traveling on NC Highway 222. Drivers should expect delays and be cautious near the worksite.
The road is scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m. Friday, May 21.
