NC 42 East Reopens After Multi-Car Accident
CLAYTON — A four-car accident shut down both directions of NC Highway 42 east of Clayton around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The crash occurred at the intersection of NC 42 and McKenzie Ridge Drive leaving vehicles and debris scattered across all four lanes.
One driver was pinned inside a car that had been T-boned. The driver was extricated from the heavily-damaged vehicle and rushed to WakeMed.
No further information about injuries or the drivers involved had been released as of Wednesday evening.
Traffic was backed up for miles but began moving again just before 6 p.m. as crews cleared the scene.
Clayton Police, Clayton Fire, and Johnston County EMS responded to the accident.

Just another consequence of the over development in the area. All that traffic, ems,police, fire needed to deal with issues like this that will only get worse. How’s that tax revenue working?

Let’s see, to my recollection there have been multiple wrecks and 3 fatalities within 1/4 miles of that area. Isn’t “ growth” great?
I hate when I have to drive through that area, I go on high alert as soon as I start coming down the hill in front of the Cat entrance. Poorly designed intersection and area in general. Keep building without planning – it’s working great isn’t it???

Actually, it hasn’t been that long ago since they finished restructuring that road. But, the population has already outgrown it.
It’s not all because of the growth. It’s because people are in to big of a hurry and they are running the stop light. I have seen it so many times on that road.
That intersection is literally there because of “growth”. A man and his daughter died when they were widening 42 and his van went off the road and flipped several times down the bank. A woman was recently t boned at cassleberry and 42 and killed. ALL BECAUSE THEY EXPANDED BECAUSE OF GROWTH.
I was there and the black truck passed the red light. For one second I saved my life because I was in the left turn light behind the girl from the silver car and before a few minutes before I decided to change to the left size and when the light turned green for Isi moved and I asked let me see the girl car because I don’t want to hit her until I’m turning 😳I heard the big noise of the crashing 😕I saw her car how was hitting
Amazing how many people don’t know how to drive. It needs to become a requirement to retake your driving test every 5 years.

Can clearly see someone ran the red light coming down the hill and t-boned silver car. Should always wait 3-5 seconds for the red light runners.
