A McGee’s Crossroads area resident who filed last week for the NC House announced Monday he was dropping out of the race.
Timmy Penny of Zack’s Mill Road, Angier filed Friday for the NC House District 28 seat currently help by Rep. Larry Strickland. Penny, a Democrat, who retired from Food Lion and Scotchman convenience stores, said Friday his priorities as a candidate would be equality, education, the economy and the environment.
On Monday, Penny formally notified the Johnston County Board of Elections he was withdrawing his name from the race.
Afterwards he told JoCoReport, “I had a long weekend and I thought about it. I decided to withdraw and help the other candidates and still be a full-time grandfather. I can’t pin it on one thing, just general personal reasons.”
The filing period remains open through this Friday, Dec. 20th at 12 Noon.
