NCDOT Hosts Johnston County Open House For Proposed I-95 Improvements

MICRO – The N.C. Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a proposal to replace a trio of bridges spanning Interstate 95 in Micro, in Johnston County.

The three bridges and highway exits that would be reconstructed to modern standards are:

  • Exit 101 (Pittman Road)
  • Exit 102 (East Main Street)
  • Exit 105 (Bagley Road)

The bridges are nearing the end of their service life, and the three interchanges are functionally obsolete, which means they are safe for travel but no longer meet the demands of the traffic using them. 

The proposed safety improvements include taller and wider bridges; a realignment of some roads around the exits; and new ramps that do not access service roads. For Exit 101, two proposals are being presented: one with roundabouts at the off ramps, and the other with conventional stop-sign intersections.

Open House

The department will host an open house from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24 at The Farm at I-95, 215 Batten Road in Selma. People will be able to see the alternative design maps for the improvements and discuss those with NCDOT staff and also submit their comments. People may drop in at any time during the open house, as there will not be a formal presentation.

Alternately, anyone may view the proposed design maps and submit their feedback on this NCDOT public input portal.

Comments collected by Nov. 28 will be considered toward the final designs. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting.   1. What I95 really needs is another lane each direction from at least Kenly to I40. And ramps directly to the US70 flyover.
