Alicia Spencer, a Senior at Neuse Charter School, has been selected as a semifinalist in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The nationwide competition starts with a detailed application that provides the students’ academic record, participation in school and community activities, leadership abilities, employment, honors and awards. Alicia’s selection as a semifinalist puts her in a pool representing less than one percent of US high school seniors’ top scoring Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Alicia also runs track at Neuse Charter School.
Her teacher Beth Miller says, “Alicia Spencer is a young lady who excels in whatever she participates in. Alicia has taken a very rigorous high school course load. She has taken advantage of many AP, CCP and online classes. All the while, she has participated on the NCS Track team. She is a pleasure to teach and work with on a daily basis.”
Alicia is the daughter of Brenda and John Spencer of Clayton.
