Nearly 20 Shots Fired Into Smithfield-Area Home
SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Johnston County family narrowly escaped injury after gunfire erupted outside their home early Tuesday morning, leaving the residence and several vehicles riddled with bullet holes.
The shooting was reported around 12:15 a.m. June 23 at a home on Kola Nut Lane off Crantock Road, west of Smithfield.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, three people were inside the residence when someone opened fire. Investigators said approximately 20 rounds struck the house and three vehicles parked outside.
Despite the barrage of gunfire, no one inside the home was injured.
Authorities estimated damage to the residence and vehicles at approximately $13,000.
Investigators have not announced a motive for the shooting or released any information about possible suspects. No arrests have been made.
