Nearly 20 Shots Fired Into Smithfield-Area Home
SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Johnston County family narrowly escaped injury after gunfire erupted outside their home early Tuesday morning, leaving the residence and several vehicles riddled with bullet holes.
The shooting was reported around 12:15 a.m. June 23 at a home on Kola Nut Lane off Crantock Road, west of Smithfield.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, three people were inside the residence when someone opened fire. Investigators said approximately 20 rounds struck the house and three vehicles parked outside.
Despite the barrage of gunfire, no one inside the home was injured.
Authorities estimated damage to the residence and vehicles at approximately $13,000.
Investigators have not announced a motive for the shooting or released any information about possible suspects. No arrests have been made.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the incident to call 919-989-5000.

Well, I’m just gonna say people be shooting all the time out here where I live probably they didn’t have a clue. May not realize There was a house back there. People are moving out here building in areas where there used to be open fields. People like guns and they shoot them in joco be prepared for some serious fire power if you are here build a brick house that helps and yell really loud when you go outside that is to scream “Stop shooting at me I am going to fire back “
This was certainly not the case. The house was targeted. They ran through the woods and walked up to the house.
Would be nice for folks in the area to get more information about this. Wish that JoCo Report could update this story!! While being near to where this occurred, Sure we all know lots of shots fired out this way , but not usually at that time of the night! Hope that the victims are all okay.
