Neuse Charter Senior Semifinalist For Prestigious State Scholarships

SMITHFIELD — A Neuse Charter School senior has been named a semifinalist for two of North Carolina’s most competitive scholarship programs.
Preeti Patel, who ranks in the top 10 percent of her graduating class, was selected as a semifinalist for the Park Scholarship at North Carolina State University and the Levine Scholarship at UNC Charlotte.
Patel was recognized for her academic performance, leadership and commitment to service.
Patel is a member of the National Honor Society and played a key role in establishing the school’s Unified Chapter, an organization that promotes inclusion among students of all abilities. She currently serves as president of the group, leading initiatives designed to foster empathy and connection within the school community, according to the school.
With an interest in health care, Patel has completed extensive service and hands-on learning experiences. School officials said she volunteered through the Junior Volunteer Program at UNC Health Johnston in Smithfield and participated in the Cadet Program with Johnston County EMS.
School counselor Amy McGinnis said Patel’s character and determination distinguish her as a student leader. “Preeti is an amazing young lady. She is humble about her accomplishments, persistent in her goals and always kind to others.”
Science teacher Dana Conrad also praised Patel’s academic approach. “Preeti is academically driven and strives for understanding and mastery through her inquisitive nature.”
Patel is the daughter of Sanjay and Dhruti Patel and the sister of Preet Patel.
