The Neuse Charter Wrestling team had a great day on Saturday at the Green Hope Grapple. Neuse Charter was the only 1-A school in attendance and finished fifth out of 14 teams.
The Cougars were led by Franko Cuccurello’s third place medal at the 120 weight class and Tristan Wellons first place medal in the 285 pound weight class.
The first place finish for Wellons marked the first Individual Tournament Championship in the Cougars Wrestling Programs brief history. Wellons was 5-0 on the day with a state record tying 5 pins in the single day competition.
The Cougars will host Smithfield Selma, Cleveland, Rocky Mount, Clinton and Louisburg this Saturday, December 10th in the first annual Cougar Classic Dual Team Tournament. Doors open at 9:00am and admission is $8 for the daylong wrestling competition.
