A fire that damaged a home and detached garage at a Smithfield area home Tuesday afternoon is being treated as suspicious.  Around 2:00pm fire crews responded to the blaze at 45 Green Bramble Court in the Swift Creek Hills subdivision off Short Journey Road.

The 55 year-old homeowner was burned by the fire. Emergency crews also discovered he had a puncture wound to his chest.  The victim was airlifted to the UNC Hospitals for treatment.

The detached garage was a total loss. Fire had been set in several places inside the doublewide mobile home, according to Johnston County Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Don Pate.
