Smithfield Police are investigating their second armed robbery within a week. Around 12:10am Saturday, a 44 year-old Selma woman was asleep in a car in the parking lot of Twister’s at 1300 South Brightleaf Boulevard when she was robbed.
Police Captain R. Sheppard said the woman was awakened by a black male armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded her money. Before fleeing with her money, the gunman pistol whipped the female. She was treated and released at the hospital for her injuries. The suspect made away with about $750 in cash.
Last Monday night, a 38 year-old man was robbed at gunpoint at his North Street home near the Johnston County Department of Social Services Building.
Police do not believe the robberies are connected.
