SMITHFIELD – Town of Smithfield Fire Chief Michael Brown received his official Oath of Office on November 9th. Brown was sworn in by Mayor Pro Tem John Dunn.
Chief Brown said he was new to the Smithfield area but not new to the fire service. He has over 35 years of municipal and volunteer fire service. Prior to accepting the job in the Town of Smithfield in September, Brown was the Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Wilson.
“I will do everything I can to do it the right way,” Chief Brown said after receiving his Oath. His wife, Robin, held the Bible while the oath was administered.
Brown received a Chief Fire Officer Designation in 2020, a Master’s Degree in Fire Service Leadership in 2010, and is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program. Chief Brown replaces former Chief John Blanton who retired earlier this year.
