SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Fire Department will be getting a new fire truck. The Town Council signed off on a request from Fire Chief Mike Brown to replace a 23 year-old American LaFrance fire rescue truck that has reached its life expectancy. Chief Brown said parts are no long available for the truck after the manufacturing company went out of business in 2014.
Three bids were received for a new fire rescue truck. The council awarded a bid to Fire Connections for $1,010,580.
The Town had budgeted $875,000 for the new truck but due to price increases and supply chain issues the price was $135,580 higher.
The new truck is expected to arrive in approximately 21 months.
Can’t believe that truck is already 23 years old. Can’t wait to see the new one when it gets in!
I found several places that provide truck parts for American Lafrance fire trucks even though the company is out of business. Also learned 1 million is in upper range for new trucks. Seems like a little much for Smithfields needs.
Grandma
you have no idea what you are talking about! Stay in the kitchen baking.
Tim research it and I’ll bake you some crow.
I love crow. I’ll take you up on that.
For 23 years old, the fire truck looks good
The town needed a new fire truck. It is well worth having another one!
