RALEIGH – North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Quincy Quaime Duff, 32, of Maxton Bass Road, Newton Grove. Duff was charged with issuing a false statement, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and common law forgery. All are felonies.
According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Duff presented written and verbal statements in an attempt to obtain $1,527 from State Farm Auto Insurance Company. Duff was also charged with forging a medical bill originally marked in the amount of $527 and had called the insurance company on several occasions to demand the altered amount.
According to the arrest warrant, the offense occurred on Nov. 10, 2023.
Duff was released from custody under a $10,000 unsecured bond and ordered to appear in Sampson County Court on May 10.
“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
