Nightly Closures Set For Busy Garner Interchange

GARNER – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to close portions of the U.S. 70 and N.C. 50 (Benson Road) interchange for multiple nights starting today (Friday) in order to safely demolish part of the N.C. 50 bridge.

Weather permitting, closures will occur nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Jan. 24–Feb. 3.

Traffic on N.C. 50 wanting to access areas north of U.S. 70 will be detoured to follow U.S. 70 East to New Rand Road to East Garner Road. Drivers on U.S. 70 West will also be detoured to take New Rand Road and follow the detour signs.

Drivers north of U.S. 70 who want to access N.C. 50 to the south of U.S. 70 will be detoured to take West Garner Road to Vandora Springs Road and follow the detour signs. Drivers on U.S. 70 East will have to exit for N.C. 50 and continue straight on the ramps to return to U.S. 70 East.

Local traffic will be allowed on Benson Road between West Garner Road and Umstead Lane.

Motorists are advised to be mindful of the work zone and follow all detour signs.
