CLAYTON – No charges will be filed in a collision involving a Clayton police officer. It happened January 30th at 6:29pm on US 70 at Financial Drive near Walmart.

According to an accident report, Officer Patrick Millar was operating an unmarked 2011 Dodge patrol car westbound on US 70 and failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic as he attempted to make a u-turn into the eastbound lanes. The patrol car was struck by a 2013 Ford SUV, traveling eastbound on US 70, and operated by Saije Gordon of Raleigh.

Officer Millar was transported to WakeMed and Ms. Gordon to Johnston Medical Center in Clayton for treatment of minor injuries. There were no passengers in the vehicles.

The State Highway Patrol investigated the two vehicle collision. The report indicated both drivers were wearing seat belts and speed was not a factor. Officer Millar was not cited.

The Dodge patrol car, owned by the Town of Clayton, sustained approximately $5,500 in damage. The Ford sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage, according to the SHP accident report.

  1. Hummmm, plainly states Officer FAILED to yield the right of way but NO chargers will be filed nor a ticket???? …. Really?!?! ….. I’m assuming if the other driver had FAILED to yield the right of way and hit the Officer she would have been ticketed and charged!! …. Guess this answers alot of questions as to why Clayton is having issues.

    • Sadly, it’s not just Clayton with the issues. I live in the Smithfield Selma area; they do the same here. I watch them all the time turn their blue lights just to make it through the red lights at intersections.

  2. So… the officer “failed to yield the right of way,” caused $10,000 of damages (that taxpayers are going to have to foot the bill), but was not charged. #ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmmm

  3. Plain as night and day. The officer FAILED to yield!! Why was he not ticketed? If any non LE had been driving that car, they sure would have been ticketed!! $10,000 in damages, not to even bring up the man power used that night due to this wreck.. Shutting down 70 HWY. Tax money being spent I guess is what you call it.
