Smithfield – Arintha Louise Hairston, age 85 passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Thursday September 21, 2023 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. She was born in Elbert, WV, to the late Ambrose Bell Poe and Dorothy Mae Rucker Poe. In addition to her father and mother, she is also preceded in death by husband, Manuel Leroy Hairston Sr.
The family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home on Wednesday September 27, 2023 from 11 AM to 12 noon. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home at 12 noon on Wednesday. Burial will follow the service in Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, where she will be interred beside her husband.
Arintha spent all of her childhood years and most of her adult years in WV- Elbert, Filbert, Gary, Roderfield, & Princeton. Arintha attended elementary – high school in McDowell County and was even voted Miss Gary District High in 1956. After graduating from High School, she met and married the love of her life- Manuel Hairston Sr. This union yielded 2 children. Arintha embraced being a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child entered Junior High School. From that point, Arintha entered the retail work force- JCPenney’s, Watsons, Roses, Kmart & Walmart. She loved people and made many friends from near and far. In 2016, Arintha moved to Clayton, NC. Where she was able to be loved on by her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Surviving are her son, Manuel Leroy Hairston, Jr., and wife Kathy of Four Oaks; daughter, Tammy R. Hairston of Clayton (Bryant Walker); step-daughters, Dorothy Still of Martinsville, VA, Donna Bonner of Silver Spring, MD; grandchildren, Devin Carter, Jimmy Richardson (Heather), Brandon Richardson, Stephen Richardson (Leslie), Kelly Richardson, Chris Richardson (Madison), Kayla James (Daniel); step-grandchildren, DeChanta Shelton, (Charles), Larry Bonner II( Lorena Alvarez) ; great grandchildren, Alexus, Amara, Tania, Arielle, Dazmin, Trinity, Junior, James Jr., Maleeyah, Kaleah, Isaiah, Arya, Christian, Owen, Oaklynn, Lynnleigh, KayLani; brother in law, Everett Hairston (Dorian) of Roselle, NJ; sister in law’s, Rev. Shirley Miller of Cleveland, OH, Costella Hairston of Williamson, WV, and Chiquilla Polain (Dwight) of Conyers, GA and Jean Robinson of Columbus, OH;
