Smithfield – Betty Lou Lawhorn Barbour, age 83, passed away Thursday September 18, 2025 at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. She was born in Durham County on August 10, 1942 to the late Fernie D. Lawhorn and Lela Norris Lawhorn. In addition to her father and mother she is also preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Barbour; siblings, James Lawhorn, Magaline Smith, Vera Lee Ennis, John “Rayford” Lawhorn and Donald Lawhorn.
A graveside service will be held in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield on Sunday September 21, 2025 at 2:00 PM.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Cecil Barbour of Smithfield; son, Barry Barbour and wife Rae of Four Oaks; sister, Helen Strickland of Clinton; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Barbour of Raleigh, Brandon and Tyler Barbour of Clayton; many nieces and nephews.
Betty will be remembered by all who knew her as a hard-working woman who enjoyed the simple things in life. She always looked after her family and was an avid collector of baby dolls.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of one’s choice.
