Bobbie Herring Ferrara

    Bobbie Ray Herring Ferrara, 92 of Wilmington, NC, and formerly of Selma, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior with her beloved children by her side on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Wilmington, NC.

    Bobbie was born October 3, 1931, in Linden, NC, a community north of Fayetteville, NC, to the late Beatrice Honeycutt and Robert Lee Ray, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walton Kenneth Herring, Sr., William “Bill” Frank Ferrara, and sister Mary Bea Ray Trogdon. She graduated from Selma High School in 1949 and pursued a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Women’s College in Greensboro in 1953. Bobbie was a retired educator for the Johnston County School System where she taught for thirty years.

    Since childhood, Bobbie was a lifelong member of Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church in Selma, NC, where she taught Sunday School to many children. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Society. Bobbie loved the Neuse Little Theatre volunteering as a seamstress by altering costumes and working wherever needed for many of the theatre productions. Her volunteer services also continued at the Johnston Memorial Hospital as a ”Pink Lady” for several years. Bobbie had a passion for traveling abroad, playing bridge with her many friends, family gatherings at the beach and especially holiday celebrations with family and friends.

    A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 11 A.M. at Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverend Cole Breit officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall with a reception. The burial will take place at Oliver Cemetery in Pine Level, NC.

    Bobbie is survived by her daughters, Charisse Herring Martin, Bainbridge, GA, Beth Herring Chadwick, husband George, Wilmington, NC; son, Walton Kenneth “Ken” Herring, Jr., wife Sharmon of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Lauren Powell Musgrove, husband Matt, Thomasville, GA, Amy Powell Hooks, Bainbridge, GA, Lauren Chadwick Allen, husband Patrick, Wilmington, NC, Walton Kenneth “Trey” Herring, III, wife Carrie, Fayetteville, NC, George Harris Chadwick, IV, wife Meg, Wilmington, NC, and Dr. Caroline Herring Kinsey, husband Colton, Benson, NC.

    Great grandchildren Gracie Madison Musgrove, Maddox Kate Musgrove, Mallie Kate Hooks, Thomas Grady Allen, Mary Scott Allen, Emory Grace Adams, Holland Beatty Chadwick, George Harris Chadwick, V. and Walton Barefoot Kinsey, Niece Amy Trogdon Andrews, husband Pat, Columbia, SC, and great- nieces Ashlyn, Meghan, and Madison Andrews.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Hill School of Wilmington, 3333 Jaeckle Drive, Unit 140, Wilmington, NC 28403 or Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 487, Selma, NC 27576.
